Free Job Posting With Gen, Plus Optional Private Jobs

Gen Is Now Free for Job Posters

Describing what you need should never be the hard part. On HelperGen, creating and refining job posts with Gen's smart features is now completely free. You do not need any Gen Points to start, so you can go from "I need support with this" to a ready-to-publish posting without spending anything.

That includes Gen Lightning, where one sentence is enough to build a draft. You review it, adjust anything you like, and publish when you are happy.

About the Daily Limit

To prevent spam and keep Gen available for everyone, a daily usage limit applies. Most people will never notice it. If you do get close, HelperGen shows roughly how much of the day's allowance is left. If you reach it, Gen tells you and points you to the manual job form, so you can still post your job and carry on. The allowance resets the next day.

Want More Privacy? Try a Private Job

Most jobs are best posted publicly, so any qualified local provider can find them and apply. But sometimes you want more control: a job at your home, a task that is personal, or a job where you already know who you would like to ask. That is what private jobs are for.

  • Hidden from public listings. A private job does not appear in public job listings or new-job alerts.
  • You choose who sees it. Providers you invite, or notify, can see it in their own job lists with a Private badge. Providers who are not on the list cannot find it.
  • Optional. Public jobs work exactly as before. Private is a choice you make on a job-by-job basis.

How to Make a Job Private

  1. Create your job with Gen or the manual form, as usual.
  2. On the review step, switch on Keep this job private. The cost in Gen Points is shown before you confirm.
  3. Choose how providers will find out. You can tick the optional box to invite and notify eligible providers near you who offer your job's service categories, or leave it unticked and invite providers yourself after publishing.
  4. Publish. Only invited providers can see and apply.

If you leave the notify box unticked, nobody is notified automatically. After publishing, HelperGen reminds you to invite providers from the job page, where you can search, pick from past providers, use recommendations, or enter a provider's invitation code. If you have a favourite helper, our guide to saving and inviting your favourite providers shows how.

Good to Know Before You Switch

  • Private jobs use Gen Points. The cost applies each time you publish a job as private or switch a public job to private. Points are not refunded.
  • Switching back is free. You can make an open, published private job public again at no charge. For a draft, choose public visibility before publishing.
  • Providers who already applied may still see it. If you switch a public job to private, providers who already applied can generally keep access.
  • You can move it back to draft. For a published job with no active applications, you can move it to draft, edit it, and publish again. Publishing it privately again uses Gen Points.

Whichever way you post, you will see each provider's trust signals before you choose. A Payment Verified badge means they have completed Stripe account setup, including required identity verification, and a CRC Verified badge means they have completed a Certn criminal record check.

Ready to try it? Describe your next job to Gen, it costs nothing to start, and decide whether you want it public or private when you review it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Gen Points to create a job with Gen?

No. Creating and refining job posts with Gen's smart features is free, so you do not need any Gen Points. A daily usage limit applies to prevent spam and keep Gen available for everyone.

What happens if I reach the daily Gen limit?

Gen lets you know you have reached the limit for the day and points you to the manual job form, so you can still post your job right away. The allowance resets the next day. If you are getting close to the limit, HelperGen shows you roughly how much is left.

What is a private job?

A private job is hidden from public listings and new-job alerts. Only providers you invite, or choose to notify, can find it, and they see it with a Private badge in their own job lists. It is optional, and public jobs work as before.

Does a private job cost Gen Points?

Yes. Making a job private uses Gen Points each time you publish it as private or switch a public job to private, and the cost is shown before you confirm. Points are not refunded. Switching a private job back to public is free.

How do providers find my private job?

You can invite providers yourself from the job page (by search, from past providers, from recommendations, or with an invitation code). You can also tick an optional box when you publish to notify eligible providers near you who offer the job's service categories. If you do not tick it, nobody is notified automatically.
