Personal Information
The Personal Information section is the foundation of your provider profile. It contains everything job posters see when reviewing your application and everything HelperGen uses to manage your account.
What you can view and edit:
- Name: Your legal first and last name as registered on your account. Displayed on your public profile and job applications.
- Email: The email address associated with your account. Used for notifications, payment receipts, and account recovery.
- Phone: Your contact phone number. Not displayed publicly but used by HelperGen for urgent account or job communications.
- Language Preference: English or French. Controls the language of the HelperGen interface and all notifications you receive.
- Member Since: The date your provider account was activated. Cannot be changed.
- Platform Fee: HelperGen charges 18% (plus tax) of each job's total payment as a platform fee. If you hold the Gold Helper badge, your fee is reduced to 15% (plus tax). This is shown here as a reminder when setting your rates.
- About Me: A short bio visible to job posters on your public profile. Describe who you are, your work style, and what makes you reliable. Keep it genuine and professional.
- Experience: A longer section for your professional background — years in the industry, specializations, certifications, and notable achievements. Job posters read this carefully before hiring.
- Address: Your residential or business address. Used by HelperGen for distance calculations when matching you to nearby jobs. Your full street address is never shown to job posters — only your approximate city and distance from jobs.
- Billing Address: The address used for payment and tax purposes. May differ from your service address if you operate from a separate location.
Invitation Code and QR Code:
Your unique Invitation Code (e.g., SCCNUP) is a short alphanumeric code you can share with potential clients. When a job poster signs up using your code, both you and the job poster may receive Gen Points rewards.
To share your code:
- Click Copy next to the code to copy it to your clipboard
- Share it via text, email, or social media with the message shown below the code
- Download your QR Code — a scannable code that links directly to an invitation that pre-fills your referral code. Print it on business cards, flyers, or vehicle decals.
Provider Strikes:
Strikes are issued by HelperGen when a provider violates platform policies — such as repeated no-shows, cancellations, or conduct issues. Your current strike count and the date of the last strike are displayed here. Strikes can affect your ability to apply for jobs and may lead to account suspension if they accumulate. Contact support if you believe a strike was issued in error.
Identity Verification
Identity Verification confirms that you are who you say you are — a critical trust signal for job posters who are inviting you into their home or business.
HelperGen uses Stripe Identity, a secure government-ID verification service, to process your verification.
What the verification involves:
- Click Start Verification in the Identity Verification section
- You are prompted to upload a photo of a government-issued ID (driver's licence, passport, or provincial ID card)
- Stripe's system takes a live selfie photo and compares it to your ID
- Stripe verifies the document is authentic and not expired
- Results typically arrive within a few minutes; some cases take up to 24 hours
After successful verification:
- A Verified ID badge appears on your public profile
- Job posters can see your identity has been confirmed by Stripe
- Your application acceptance rate typically increases significantly
Cost: Identity Verification is $4.99 (one-time fee), charged to the payment method on file when you start the process.
Important notes:
- Your government ID images are processed by Stripe and are not stored by HelperGen
- Verification is valid indefinitely unless your account is flagged for review
- If verification fails, you will see the reason (e.g., blurry photo, expired ID) and can retry
- You must have a valid payment method on file before starting verification
Insurance Coverage
The Insurance Coverage section lets you declare and document your professional liability insurance — a key trust signal for job posters, especially for higher-risk services like electrical work, plumbing, and in-home care.
What to enter:
- Insurance Provider: The name of your insurance company (e.g., Intact, Aviva, Economical)
- Policy Number: Your policy reference number as it appears on your insurance certificate
- Coverage Amount: The dollar amount your policy covers per incident or in total (e.g., $1,000,000 or $2,000,000)
- Expiry Date: The date your current policy expires. HelperGen may remind you to renew before this date.
- Insurance Certificate: Upload a PDF or image of your current insurance certificate of coverage
To update your insurance:
- Click Edit in the Insurance Coverage section
- Enter or update your insurance details
- Upload your current certificate
- Click Save
Why this matters: Job posters can see that you carry insurance. For services involving physical work on a property, many job posters specifically filter for insured providers. An Insured badge may appear on your public profile once HelperGen has confirmed your certificate.
Note: HelperGen does not verify the active status of your insurance directly — you are responsible for maintaining valid coverage. Providing false insurance information is grounds for account suspension.
Services and Rates
The Services section defines what you offer and what you charge. This is what job posters see when your profile comes up in search results and what the AI matching system uses to pair you with suitable jobs.
Adding a service:
- Click Add Service
- Select a service category from the dropdown (e.g., Cleaning, Handyman, Landscaping, Home Care)
- Select a subcategory if applicable (e.g., under Cleaning: Deep Cleaning, Move-Out Clean, Regular Maintenance)
- Write a service description — explain exactly what is included, what you bring, and what the job poster should expect. Be specific: "I bring all cleaning supplies and equipment" is more reassuring than "standard cleaning service".
- Set your hourly rate (minimum $15.00/hour). Consider that HelperGen deducts the platform fee (18% or 15% for Gold Helpers) from your earnings — price accordingly.
- Click Save Service
Managing existing services:
- Click the edit icon on any existing service to update its description, rate, or category
- Click the delete icon to remove a service you no longer offer
- You can add as many services as you like across different categories
Pricing strategy tips:
- Check what similar providers in your area charge before setting rates
- Offer a slightly lower rate for your first few jobs to build reviews and a track record
- Use the description field to justify higher rates (e.g., certifications, equipment, experience)
- Consider setting different rates for regular work vs. specialized or rush work
Tax Information
The Tax Information section is where you acknowledge your tax obligations as a self-employed service provider on HelperGen.
Tax acknowledgment:
HelperGen requires all providers to confirm they understand that:
- Income earned through HelperGen is self-employment income and must be reported to the CRA on your annual tax return
- HelperGen does not withhold income tax on your behalf
- You are responsible for tracking your earnings and paying applicable income taxes
To acknowledge, click the checkbox in the Tax Information section and click Save. This acknowledgment is required before you can receive payouts.
Tax numbers (GST/HST/PST):
If your annual self-employment income exceeds $30,000, you are required by the CRA to register for GST/HST and collect it from clients. If you have a GST/HST number:
- Enter your GST/HST registration number in the provided field
- Select the applicable tax type (GST, HST, or PST+GST depending on your province)
- Click Save
Once your tax number is on file, applicable taxes will be collected from job posters and remitted appropriately.
Important: Tax regulations vary by province. If you are unsure whether you need to register for GST/HST, consult a tax professional or visit the CRA website at canada.ca/taxes.
Stripe Account Connect
The Stripe Account section connects your HelperGen account to Stripe Connect — the payment platform that sends your earnings to your bank account after each completed job.
Why Stripe Connect is required:
Stripe Connect is how HelperGen securely transfers your earnings. Without a connected Stripe account, you cannot receive payouts for completed jobs. HelperGen never holds your money beyond the processing window — it flows directly from job poster to your bank via Stripe.
Setting up your Stripe Connect account:
- Click Connect with Stripe (or Set Up Payout Account) in this section
- You are redirected to Stripe's secure onboarding page
- Provide the required information:
- Legal name
- Date of birth
- SIN (Social Insurance Number) — required by Stripe for identity verification under Canadian financial regulations
- Bank account details (institution number, transit number, account number)
- Business type (individual or registered business)
- Complete Stripe's identity verification steps
- Once approved, you are redirected back to HelperGen and your Stripe account status shows Connected
Payout schedule:
Payouts are processed by Stripe typically within 2–5 business days after a job is marked complete and payment is authorized. Stripe may hold initial payouts for new accounts for up to 7 days as part of their fraud prevention process.
Managing your Stripe account:
- Click Manage Stripe Account to update your bank account details, view your payout history, or access your Stripe dashboard
- If your Stripe account requires additional information (e.g., updated ID), you will see a warning banner — click through to Stripe to resolve it immediately to avoid payout delays
- You can disconnect and reconnect Stripe if you need to change bank accounts
Payment Methods
The Payment Method section manages the credit cards you use to pay for HelperGen services as a provider — this is separate from your Stripe Connect payout account.
What payment methods are used for:
As a provider, you may need to pay for:
- Identity Verification: Purchasing a Stripe Identity verification session (if applicable)
- Background Check (CRC): Paying the $39.99 + tax criminal record check fee via Certn
- Gen Points bundles: Purchasing Gen Points to access premium profile features (custom handle, portfolio showcase, invitation widget)
- Premium subscriptions: Portfolio Showcase (75 Gen Points/month), Invitation Widget (100 Gen Points/month), Video Introduction (60 Gen Points/month)
Adding a payment method:
- Click Add Payment Method
- Enter your card details (card number, expiry, CVV)
- Enter the billing address for the card
- Click Save
Your card is securely stored by Stripe — HelperGen never stores raw card numbers.
Managing payment methods:
- You can add multiple cards and set one as the default
- The default card is charged automatically for recurring subscriptions
- Click the trash icon to remove a card
- You cannot delete the default card if you have active subscriptions — set another card as default first
Badge Progress
The Badge Progress section shows your journey toward earning HelperGen's achievement badges — visual trust signals that appear on your profile and job applications.
The Gold Helper Badge:
The Gold Helper badge is HelperGen's most prestigious provider recognition. Earning it reduces your platform fee from 18% to 15% and significantly increases your visibility in search results and job matching.
Requirements to earn Gold Helper:
- Minimum completed jobs: A set number of jobs marked as completed with payment processed
- Minimum rating: An average client rating of 4.5 or higher across all completed jobs
- No active strikes: Your account must be in good standing with zero unresolved strikes
- Verification: Identity Verification must be complete
The progress tracker in this section shows exactly how many jobs and what rating you currently have, so you can see how close you are to qualifying.
Other badges:
- Verified ID: Earned by completing Identity Verification via Stripe Identity
- Background Checked: Earned by completing the Criminal Record Check via Certn
- Insured: Earned by providing a valid insurance certificate
- Top Rated: Awarded to providers consistently rated 5 stars by clients
Badges update automatically as you meet the requirements. There is no manual application process — HelperGen awards them when criteria are met.
Background Checks
The Background Checks (Verification) section lets you purchase and track a Criminal Record Check (CRC) — one of the most powerful trust signals available to providers on HelperGen.
What the background check covers:
HelperGen uses Certn, a Canadian background screening company, to conduct the criminal record check. The check searches Canadian criminal databases for:
- Criminal convictions
- Outstanding charges
- Peace bonds and probation orders
The check does not include civil records, credit history, or driving records.
Cost: $39.99 + applicable tax (paid by you, not the job poster)
How to purchase and complete your CRC:
- In the Background Checks section, click Start Background Check
- You are shown a price breakdown including tax (GST/HST based on your province)
- Select the payment method to use
- Click Purchase — your card is charged immediately
- You receive an email from Certn with instructions to complete the check
- Follow the Certn link to submit your consent and personal information
- Certn typically completes the check within 1–3 business days
- Results are sent to HelperGen automatically
- If the check comes back clear, a Background Checked badge appears on your profile
What if the check finds something:
If your criminal record check returns a result, HelperGen's trust and safety team reviews it. Minor, unrelated historical offences may not affect your account. Serious or relevant offences may restrict your ability to apply for certain job types. You are notified of the outcome by email.
Important: The CRC is non-refundable once purchased, as Certn begins processing immediately.
Auto-Cancel Settings
The Auto-Cancel Settings section lets you configure how much advance notice you need before a job automatically cancels your application.
What is the Auto-Cancel Buffer:
When a job poster's payment authorization window closes without authorization (i.e., the job poster does not authorize payment before the job starts), the job may be auto-cancelled. The Auto-Cancel Buffer is how many hours before a job's scheduled start time you want the system to automatically cancel your accepted application if you have not received confirmation.
Why this setting exists:
Without a buffer, you might show up to a job only to find the payment was never authorized and the job is in limbo. The buffer gives you a guaranteed heads-up window to either follow up with the client or free yourself up for other work.
Setting your buffer:
- Use the slider or input field to set your preferred buffer (in hours)
- Choose a value between 1 and 72 hours
- Click Save
Recommended settings by job type:
- Short jobs (1–3 hours): 2–4 hour buffer — enough notice to rebook your time
- Full-day jobs: 8–12 hour buffer — gives you overnight notice
- Multi-day jobs: 24 hour buffer — ensures you can plan accordingly
This setting applies as your default across all accepted applications. You cannot set a different buffer per individual job.
Account Settings
The Account Settings section controls your general account preferences and activation status.
Account activation status:
Your account can be in one of three states:
- Active: Your profile is visible to job posters and you can apply for jobs normally
- Away: You are temporarily unavailable. Your profile is hidden from new job matches and you cannot receive new job invitations. Existing accepted jobs are not affected.
- Inactive: Your account is deactivated. You cannot apply for or receive jobs. Use this if you are taking an extended break from the platform.
To change your status:
- In Account Settings, find the Account Status toggle or dropdown
- Select your desired status
- Click Save
Language preference:
Set your preferred language (English or French) for the HelperGen interface. This affects:
- All UI text and navigation labels
- Email notifications you receive from HelperGen
- In-app error messages and confirmations
Job content (job descriptions, messages from clients) appears in whatever language the job poster used — this setting only controls the HelperGen interface itself.
Timezone:
Set your local timezone so that job schedules, notification times, and payment windows display in your local time. If you work across multiple timezones (e.g., you travel for work), update this setting when you change locations.
Account Security
The Account Security section helps you protect your HelperGen provider account with advanced authentication methods.
Passkeys (recommended):
HelperGen supports passkeys — a modern, password-free login method that uses your device's biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello) or a hardware security key. Passkeys are more secure than passwords because:
- They cannot be phished (no password to steal)
- They are unique to HelperGen and cannot be reused on other sites
- They are stored on your device and backed up through your device's secure enclave
To add a passkey:
- In Account Security, click Add Passkey
- Follow your device's prompts (Face ID scan, fingerprint, or PIN)
- The passkey is registered — you can now log in with biometrics instead of your password
Multiple passkeys:
You can register passkeys on multiple devices (e.g., your phone and your laptop). Each device has its own passkey. If you lose a device, delete that device's passkey from this section and the lost device can no longer log into your account.
Password:
If you use password-based login, keep your password strong:
- At least 12 characters
- Mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols
- Unique to HelperGen (do not reuse passwords from other sites)
To change your password, use the Change Password option in Account Security or the forgot-password flow on the login page.
If you believe your account has been compromised:
- Change your password immediately
- Remove any passkeys you do not recognize
- Contact HelperGen support at [email protected]
Delete Account
The Delete Account section allows you to permanently and irreversibly delete your HelperGen provider account.
Before you delete:
Please carefully consider the following before proceeding:
- All your profile data, services, reviews, and job history will be permanently deleted
- Any accepted jobs that have not yet been completed will be cancelled automatically — this may result in a strike being applied before deletion
- Any pending payouts from Stripe will still be processed to your bank account — deletion does not forfeit earned money, but allow 5–7 business days for Stripe to process remaining payouts after deletion
- Your reviews (ratings you received from clients) are removed from the platform
- Your Invitation Code and any referral links you shared will stop working
- Gen Points remaining in your balance are forfeited — they cannot be refunded
- This action cannot be undone — there is no recovery option
How to delete your account:
Step 1 — Review the warning Scroll to the Delete Account section at the bottom of your profile. A confirmation dialog opens explaining what will be permanently deleted. Read it carefully, then click Continue.
Step 2 — Choose a verification method Choose how HelperGen verifies your identity:
- Email — a 6-digit code is sent to your registered email address
- Phone — a 6-digit code is sent by SMS to your registered phone number
Select your preferred method and click Send Code.
Step 3 — Enter the verification code Enter the 6-digit code you received. Once you click Verify & Confirm Delete Account, your account is permanently deleted and you are automatically logged out and redirected to the login page.
If you want a break instead:
Consider setting your account status to Away or Inactive in Account Settings. This hides your profile and pauses all job matching without losing your reviews, history, or Gen Points balance. You can reactivate at any time by changing your status back to Active.
