How the AI Job Assistant Works
HelperGen's AI assistant — called Gen — lets you describe what you need in plain, everyday language, the same way you would explain it to a friend. Gen listens, asks follow-up questions if needed, and builds a complete, structured job listing for you. You do not need to fill out any forms.
Gen supports both text and voice input, and includes two optional modes (Gen Lightning and Speaker) to suit your preferred working style. When Gen has gathered all the information it needs, it replaces the send button with a Review & Submit button — click it to move to the photo upload step and then the final review before publishing.
Under the hood, Gen extracts key details from your conversation — service type, date, location, budget, special requirements — and maps them to HelperGen's job fields. You stay in control at every step: review, edit, and only publish when you are satisfied.
Controls at the Top of the Screen
The top bar of the Create Job screen contains three important controls:
⚡ Gen Lightning (top left) Gen Lightning is a quick job creation mode. When you turn it on, Gen skips the back-and-forth conversation and builds your job listing from a single, comprehensive message. This is ideal if you already know exactly what you need and want to skip the guided questions.
When Gen Lightning is off (the default), Gen uses a conversational approach — it asks follow-up questions to make sure every detail is captured correctly. This is the recommended mode if you are posting a complex or multi-step job.
To toggle Gen Lightning, click the ⚡ Gen Lightning button in the top left. The button label switches between "Gen Lightning Off" (conversational mode) and "Gen Lightning On" (quick mode).
🔊 Speaker (top right) The Speaker toggle controls whether Gen's text responses are read aloud to you using text-to-speech. When the Speaker is on, Gen's replies play as audio immediately after they appear, so you can listen while you prepare your next message.
To toggle the speaker, click the 🔊 Speaker button in the top right. The button label switches between "Speaker Off" and "Speaker On".
Manual Create (top right) Prefer a traditional form instead of a conversation? Click Manual Create to switch to the step-by-step manual job form. The manual form lets you fill in every field directly — category, title, description, schedule, budget, and location — without chatting with Gen.
Note: Switching to the manual form discards the current conversation. Any details Gen has already gathered are not carried over. You can copy any relevant information before switching.
Job Creation Steps
Creating a job with the AI assistant takes three steps. The sidebar on the left of the screen tracks your progress:
Step 1 — Describe Your Job (AI Conversation) Chat with Gen in the main panel. Describe what you need in plain language. Gen will ask follow-up questions and build your job listing from your answers. When Gen has everything it needs, the Review & Submit button appears — click it to move forward.
Step 2 — Upload Photos Optionally add photos to help providers understand the scope of work. Examples: photos of the rooms to be cleaned, the item to be repaired, the garden to be maintained. Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP. Photos are organized into categories (Before, Reference) and shown to providers when they view your job listing.
Step 3 — Review and Submit Review the complete job summary one final time before publishing. This screen shows the job title, description, category, date, time, budget, and location all in one view, along with the Gen Points cost for publishing. If everything looks correct, click Publish Job to make your listing live.
Step 1: Describe Your Job
The conversation step is where you tell Gen what you need. Here is how to get the best results:
- Start naturally — Type or say something like: "I need my 2-bedroom apartment deep cleaned this Saturday morning, around 3 hours of work, budget around $90"
- Answer follow-up questions — Gen may ask about pets, preferred products, specific areas (e.g., oven, bathrooms), parking, or access instructions. Short, direct answers work best.
- Correct mistakes — If Gen misunderstood something (wrong date, wrong category), just type a correction: "Actually it should be Sunday, not Saturday"
- Add more detail anytime — You can add information at any point. Gen updates the job listing as you go.
- Click Review & Submit — When Gen has enough information, the Review & Submit button replaces the send arrow. Click it to proceed to the photo upload step.
+1 Gen Point per Interaction Each message you send to Gen costs 1 Gen Point. This is the cost of the AI processing your request. The label "+1 Gen Point per Interaction" is shown beneath the message box as a reminder. Gen Points used for conversation are separate from the Gen Points spent to publish a job.
Voice Input Click the microphone icon (🎤) on the right side of the message box to speak instead of typing. Gen transcribes your speech and responds the same way as if you had typed. Speak at a natural pace — pause briefly when you are done talking before the transcription finalizes.
Privacy note: Your voice is only heard during transcription — it is not stored or recorded. HelperGen does not retain any audio data.
Cancel The Cancel button (bottom left) exits the job creation flow without saving. If you have an existing draft, you will be prompted to confirm before discarding.
Step 2: Upload Photos
Photos are optional but strongly recommended. Listings with photos consistently receive more and better-matched applications because providers can accurately assess the scope of work before applying.
To add photos:
- Click the camera icon or drag and drop image files into the upload area
- Select one or more photos from your device (JPEG, PNG, or WebP, up to 10 MB each)
- Assign a category label to each photo:
- Before — Shows the current state of the space or item (most useful category)
- Reference — Shows an example of the desired outcome or a specific item to pay attention to
- Add an optional caption to each photo for extra context
- Photos are reorderable — drag them into the order you want providers to see them
Privacy note: Your exact address is not shown to providers until after you hire one of them. Photos, however, are visible to all applicants. Avoid uploading photos that show personal items, faces, or identifiable documents.
Step 3: Review and Submit
The final step gives you a complete preview of your job listing before it goes live. Take a moment to read everything carefully — once providers start applying, you cannot change the budget without potentially affecting your current applications.
Review checklist:
- Job title — Clear and descriptive (e.g., "Deep clean 2-bedroom apartment, Saturday morning")
- Description — Covers all the important details a provider needs to assess the job
- Service category — Correct category so the right providers see your job
- Date and time — Accurate, including whether flexibility is indicated
- Duration — Realistic estimate of hours needed
- Budget — Minimum and maximum hourly rates you are comfortable paying
- Location — Your full address
- Photos — Uploaded and labelled correctly
Gen Points cost: The review screen displays how many Gen Points publishing will cost based on your maximum budget:
| Maximum Budget | Gen Points Cost |
|---|---|
| Under $120 | Free |
| $120 – $299 | 25 Gen Points |
| $300 – $699 | 50 Gen Points |
| $700 and above | 100 Gen Points |
Your current balance is shown next to the cost. If you do not have enough points, a Buy Gen Points button appears — click it to purchase a bundle and then return to publish.
Click Publish Job when you are ready. Your listing goes live immediately.
Your Gen Points Balance
Your Gen Points balance is displayed in the sidebar on the left while you create your job. The circular progress ring shows your current balance at a glance, so you always know whether you have enough points to publish before you finish building your listing.
What are Gen Points?
Gen Points are HelperGen's credit system. They are used to publish job listings on the platform. The cost depends on your job's maximum budget — small, low-budget jobs can be published for free, while larger jobs cost up to 100 points.
Gen Points costs by budget:
| Maximum Budget | Gen Points Cost |
|---|---|
| Under $120 | Free |
| $120 – $299 | 25 Gen Points |
| $300 – $699 | 50 Gen Points |
| $700 and above | 100 Gen Points |
How to get Gen Points:
- Purchase bundles — Buy Gen Points from the Gen Points Store. Bundles start at 45 points for $4.99, with larger bundles offering better value per point.
- Earn on completion — You automatically receive 5 Gen Points every time one of your jobs is marked complete (see below).
- Welcome bonus — New job poster accounts receive a welcome bonus to get started.
Important: Gen Points are deducted when you click Publish Job. If you cancel a job after publishing (before hiring a provider), the Gen Points are not refunded. Plan your budget tier carefully before publishing.
To check your full transaction history or purchase more points, click View Gen Points in the sidebar, or go to Account → Gen Points in the top navigation.
Earn 5 Gen Points Per Completed Job
Every time one of your jobs reaches Completed status — meaning the provider has finished the work and payment has been processed — you automatically receive 5 Gen Points back into your account. No action is required on your part.
How the reward works:
- Your hired provider completes the job and submits their Quick Pay Code
- You authorize payment (or it auto-authorizes after 48 hours)
- Stripe processes the payment to the provider
- HelperGen adds 5 Gen Points to your balance immediately
- You receive a notification confirming the reward
Why this matters:
If you post jobs regularly, your Gen Points rewards partially offset your publishing costs. For example, if you post a job that costs 25 Gen Points and it completes successfully, you earn back 5 — meaning your net cost is 20 points for that job cycle.
Providers who complete jobs on time and to a high standard directly benefit your Gen Points balance. This is one reason it is worth taking time to hire well and leave accurate reviews — it creates a better platform for everyone.
Where to see your rewards:
Go to Account → Gen Points → Transactions to see a full history of every Gen Points credit and debit, including completion rewards, bundle purchases, and job publishing costs.
Refer Friends and Earn
HelperGen's referral program lets you earn Gen Points by inviting friends, family, or colleagues to join the platform.
How it works:
- Find your personal referral code by going to Account → Referrals (or click the referral card in the sidebar)
- Share your code with anyone you think would benefit from HelperGen — as a job poster or as a service provider
- When someone signs up using your code and completes their first job (as a job poster) or their first accepted application (as a provider), you receive a Gen Points reward
Referral rewards:
- Job poster referral: Earn Gen Points when your referred job poster publishes and completes their first job
- Provider referral: Earn Gen Points when your referred service provider completes their first job on the platform
Tips for sharing your code:
- Share via text message, email, or social media — anywhere you connect with people who might need home services or want to offer them
- Mention a specific benefit: job posters get a welcome Gen Points bonus on signup; providers receive 75 Gen Points to start
- There is no limit to how many people you can refer — every qualifying referral earns you points
To view your referral link, QR code, and a history of who has used your code, go to Account → Referrals from the navigation menu.
Tips for Better Results
Get the most from the AI assistant and your job listing:
- Be specific about the task: Instead of "clean my place", say "deep clean my 3-bedroom home including oven, fridge interior, and two bathrooms — about 4–5 hours of work"
- Include constraints upfront: Pets, fragrance-free products only, no loud equipment before 10 AM, parking instructions, gate access codes (share these only in messages after hiring, not in the public job description)
- Set a realistic budget: Providers filter available jobs by budget tier — setting it too low will reduce the number and quality of applications you receive
- Use voice for complex descriptions: Speaking is often faster and more natural than typing when you have a lot of detail
- Check the service category: Before publishing, confirm the AI selected the right category. The wrong category means providers who specialize in your service type may never see your job
- Add photos: Even one or two photos of the space or item dramatically improves application quality — providers can self-select whether the job is a good fit
- Review the draft carefully: The AI does its best, but you know your job best. Catch any errors in dates, budget, or description before publishing
