Getting Started as a Service Provider

Welcome to HelperGen

HelperGen is a marketplace for skilled service providers. You set your own rates, choose the jobs you want, and get paid directly and securely through Stripe. There are no subscription fees — HelperGen charges a commission of 18% on completed jobs (reduced to 15% if you earn the Gold Helper badge). You start with 75 Gen Points as a welcome bonus.

What You Can Do as a Service Provider

As a provider you can:

Step 1: Complete Your Profile

Your profile is your storefront. A complete, professional profile gets significantly more job invitations. To complete your profile:

  1. Go to Profile in the navigation menu
  2. Add a professional photo (clear headshot, well-lit)
  3. Write a compelling bio describing your experience and specialties
  4. Set your availability (days and hours you work)
  5. Add your service area (city/neighbourhood you serve)

Then go to Services and add each service you offer with a rate and description. Profiles with at least 3 services receive 40% more applications.

Step 2: Set Up Stripe Connect

To receive payments you must connect a Stripe account. This is how HelperGen pays you after each completed job:

  1. Go to Profile → Payment Settings or Earnings
  2. Click Connect with Stripe
  3. You will be redirected to Stripe's secure onboarding — follow the steps to provide your banking details
  4. Return to HelperGen once Stripe confirms your account

Payouts are processed automatically after a job is marked complete. The payout typically arrives in your bank account within 2–5 business days. You cannot receive payments until your Stripe account is fully verified.

Step 3: List Your Services

Adding clear, detailed services improves your visibility in job matching:

  1. Navigate to Profile → Services
  2. Click Add Service
  3. Select a service category (Cleaning, Handyman, Caregiving, etc.) and subcategory
  4. Write a description of what you offer
  5. Set your hourly rate (minimum $15/hour platform-wide)
  6. Upload any relevant qualification documents (certifications, licences)
  7. Click Save

You can add multiple services. Each service can have its own rate and description.

Step 4: Apply for Jobs

Once your profile is set up:

  1. Go to Available Jobs in the navigation
  2. Browse job listings — use filters for service type, location, and rate
  3. Click a job to read the full details
  4. Click Apply and fill in your proposed rate, start date, estimated hours, and a cover message
  5. Submit your application — the job poster will review it and may message you

You can also check Job Matches for AI-curated jobs that fit your profile, and view Invitations from job posters who contacted you directly.
