Payment Overview
All financial transactions on HelperGen flow through Stripe — one of the world's most trusted payment platforms. Neither job posters nor providers ever need to exchange cash or personal banking information with each other. HelperGen acts as the secure payment intermediary between both parties.
How Job Posters Pay
Job posters pay by credit card saved in their HelperGen account. Payment is not charged automatically — it only processes after:
- The job is marked complete
- The job poster manually authorizes payment (or auto-authorization triggers)
The amount charged equals the agreed rate × hours worked, plus any applicable taxes (GST/HST/PST/QST). Job posters receive an email receipt immediately after each successful payment.
How Providers Get Paid
Providers receive payment through Stripe Connect — a direct bank-to-bank transfer system. To receive payments:
- Set up a Stripe Connect account during onboarding
- Connect your Canadian bank account (chequing account recommended)
- After each completed and authorized job, Stripe transfers your net amount (gross minus commission)
Typical transfer time: 2–5 business days from payment authorization to bank deposit.
Stripe Payment Processing
HelperGen uses Stripe for all payment processing:
- PCI-DSS compliant: Your card data is stored and encrypted by Stripe, not HelperGen
- 3D Secure authentication: Large payments may trigger additional bank verification
- Fraud detection: Stripe's machine learning monitors all transactions for suspicious activity
- Stripe Connect: Enables direct payouts to provider bank accounts in Canada
HelperGen covers all Stripe processing fees — providers receive their full net amount after commission with no additional deductions.
Payment Security
Your payment information is protected:
- Card numbers are never stored on HelperGen servers — Stripe tokenizes all card data
- All transactions use TLS/HTTPS encryption
- Job posters can add and remove saved payment methods at any time
- HelperGen support staff cannot view full card numbers — only the last 4 digits and card type
- Suspicious payments trigger automatic holds pending review
Tax Information
For job posters: Taxes charged by providers (GST, HST, etc.) are included in your total and shown on your receipt. HelperGen does not collect taxes on behalf of job posters — the taxes are remitted by the provider.
For providers: You are responsible for determining which taxes apply to your services based on your province and registration status. Configure your tax settings under Profile → Tax Settings. HelperGen provides tracking and reporting tools but does not file or remit your taxes.
Consult a Canadian tax professional for specific advice on GST/HST registration thresholds and obligations as a self-employed service provider.
