Private Jobs let you keep a job out of every public listing. Other providers never see a private job in Find Jobs, job matching, Gen Ultra, new-job alerts, or public pages. Access is limited to providers you invite or notify in the job's own categories, plus eligible applicants carried over when a public job becomes private. Declined applicants can view their application status but cannot apply again and do not appear in discovery lists. Eligible providers with access find it in their own Find Jobs, Bookmarks, Smart Matches and Gen Ultra, marked Private.
Private Jobs cost the Gen Points fee shown on screen (normally 10 points) for each private publication or public-to-private switch. Manual invitations and category notifications are included. Posting a regular public job stays free.
How to Publish a Private Job
- Create your job with Gen or the manual form
- On the review step, turn on Keep this job private. The cost in Gen Points and your current balance are shown
- Optionally tick Notify providers in this job's categories. All of the job's categories are selected; you can untick some, but you cannot add other categories
- Click Publish
The Gen Points are deducted at the moment the job is published. For family-managed jobs, the points come from the job owner's account. If the owner does not have enough points, the job stays a draft and nothing is charged.
Notifying Providers in the Job's Categories
If you tick the notify option, HelperGen sends a private invitation once, when the job is published, to providers who:
- Offer at least one of the selected categories
- Are within 100 km of the job
- Accept job invitations in their notification settings
The notification limit is shown during setup (normally up to 30 providers), ranked by rating and distance. Providers must also be available, have payouts set up, and have a valid criminal record check. Your job needs an address for this option. If neither category notification nor re-inviting previous providers is selected, nobody is notified: invite providers yourself from the job page.
Who Can See a Private Job
The Who can see this job panel on the job page lists everyone with access:
- Invited by you: providers you invited (search, recommended providers, past providers, or invitation code)
- Notified in this job's categories: providers reached by the notify option
- Applied while public: providers who applied before you made the job private
Invited providers keep access even after their invitation expires. A provider who withdraws keeps access only if they still offer one of the job's categories within 100 km. Providers you decline can still see the status of their application but cannot apply again.
Switching Between Public and Private
From the job page, while no provider is hired:
- Make public is free at any time. The job appears in listings and providers in its categories get the usual new-job alert (once per publication).
- Make private costs the Gen Points fee every time. The job disappears from listings right away, and current applicants keep access. Withdrawn applicants retain access if they offer a job category and are within 100 km, or if you invite them again after withdrawal.
Points spent on a private job are never refunded, including when you make it public again, cancel it, or no one is hired.
Moving a Private Job Back to Draft
When the scheduled job time passes with no active applications, HelperGen moves the job back to draft automatically. You can also click Move to draft on the job page if there are no active applications.
When a private job moves to draft, open invitations expire and the access list is cleared. Edit the date and publish again: publishing as private charges the fee again, and you can tick Re-invite previous providers to invite the same providers in one tap at no extra cost.
